Poet Lance Carden

 

Lance holds an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Oregon and was a longtime writer and editor at The Christian Science Monitor.

He is the author of Witness: An Oral History of Black Politics in Boston (1989); of three poetry books, Tuscan Retreat (2013), City of Lions (2015), and Spiritual Exercise (2019), as well as a two-act play, Democracy & its Demise (2018).

 

Artist Dee Roberts

 

Dee was born in Pennsylvania and received and maintained a scholarship to the Philadelphia College of Art.

She is a diverse artist who works with pastels, watercolor, collage and acrylic. She has permanent collections at UNF, St, Johns Country Day School and AT&T and has been included in shows at Jacksonville University, FSCJ, Karpeles Museum, Cummer Museum, Southlight Gallery and  Jacksonville International Airport.

She has received signature status with the Florida Watercolor Society and in 2010 won Jacksonville Watercolor Artist of the Year. She won awards from the Saint Augustine Art Association for Best Painting, Best Pastel Portrait and Best in Show. In 2020, Dee received the prestigious Carl Steinsieck Award.

Musician David Coogan

 

David is an Associate Professor of English at Virginia Commonwealth University and the author of “Writing Our Way Out: Memoirs from Jail”, the creative culmination of a writing class in which ten men explore the conditions, traps, and turning points on their paths to imprisonment as well as the redemptive power of memoir.
